Welcome to All Saints' Church.Pleasant Hall, St. Peter, Barbados.All Saints.All Saints' Church, established as a Chapel of Ease, is located at Pleasant Hall, St. Peter, Barbados. It is one of a trio of Anglican (Episcopal) churches in the said parish, under the auspisces of the Barbados Dioscese. The other two being the St. Peter's Parish Church and the St. Philip-the-less Anglican Church. Other churches which since been absorbed within these churches were the St. Nicholas (Mangrove, St, Peter) and St. Boniface (Rock Dundo, St. Peter) Churches. |
A Brief HistoryAll Saints' Church, established as a Chapel of Ease, was first built in 1649. This church was destroyed by the great hurricane of 1831. A second church was built in 1839, but was pulled down as unsafe 1882. The present church was rebuilt in 1884. All Saints' is reputed to have to most beautiful stained glass detail in any church within the western hemisphere. See our History tab for a more detailed history. Did You Know.........that William Arnold, the first English settler to set foot on Barbadian soil in 1627, went on to own a sizeable plantation (all that remains is Arnold's Mill at White Hall) and is buried in All Saints' Church yard? ...that the present bell at All Saints' Church was struck by John Warner & Sons of Crescent Foundry, Cripplegate, London, UK in 1820, the same foundry that cast the original 'hour' bell and the existing four 'quarter' bells for the 'Big Ben' clock tower, House of Parliment, Westminister, London, UK in 1856 and were donated by Mrs. Norton Deane, who also donated the old lamps used for lighting? ...that the stained glass detail located on the eastern side of the church's sanctuary was a donation from Thomas Briggs in memory of his parents, the owners of the Grenade Hall Plantation which included Farley Hill great house? ...that after the violent hurricane which struck Barbados in 1780, only two churches and one chapel remained: St. Andrew, St. Peter and All Saints?
